Immunity to Change
Do you have an improvement goal that has proved to be a challenge? If you were able to break through with this goal or ONE BIG THING, would it make a huge difference to your leadership effectiveness?
If so read on………
Individual change is often difficult because we approach an adaptive challenge with a technical solution. (The Practice of Adaptive Leadership 2009 - Ronald Heifetz et al)
“While technical problems may be complex, they have known solutions through current structures, procedures. Adaptive challenges can only be addressed through changes in people’s priorities, beliefs, habits and loyalties”
Kegan and Lahey’s powerful Immunity to Change model is highly effective in uncovering why an improvement goal is difficult to achieve. It uncovers the fears and unconscious hidden competing commitments that “have us” which pull against the goal “we have”. This is known as our Immunity to Change – it protects us.
The Immunity to Change model treats an individual’s improvement goal with an adaptive solution. The process requires looking into the mirror and the outcomes are very powerful.
